August 2022: Following a nine-day due process hearing, led by Christine Bacon of Alderwood Legal in Bend and second-chaired by Kim Sherman, our client was awarded partial reimbursement for the cost of residential school placement during the COVID school closures.
September 2021: Eugene School District 4J settled with former student Lexy McIntyre for her federal discrimination, bullying, and hostile learning environment claims.

Education, Environmental, & Estate Law Group was formed in 2017 to provide legal counsel on educational, environmental, and estate planning concerns. In 2023, we changed our name to Education, Environmental, & Estate Law, LLC ("E3 Law").
Kim specializes in special education and disability rights for students as well as in developing estate plans, special needs trusts, and guardianships and conservatorships. Kim also works with landowners to protect their wild or natural property with conservation easements or in legal action when a property owner's trees are illegally cut or damaged.
Kim has been involved in local environmental issues since the early 2000’s when she held a Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program (WHIP) grant and restored 20 acres of oak forest in Polk County. Kim has degrees in Speech & Communication (BA, Cal State Northridge) and Education (Masters, University of Hawai'i), a PhD in Special Education from University of Oregon, and a JD from Willamette University, where she was awarded a Sustainable Environmental, Energy, and Resources Certificate.
Prior to being admitted to the bar, Kim served as an elementary and middle school special education teacher, faculty at both Western Oregon University and the University of Oregon, education specialist at the Oregon Department of Education, and project lead in the statewide assessment for students with significant disabilities in Alaska. Additionally, Kim served as the Director of Student Services (Special Education) for Central School District 13J and as the assistant director for the University of Oregon's school administrator licensure program.
Kim is licensed to practice law in Oregon and Washington.
Emily has been a natural born advocate for people with disabilities for as early as she can remember. She has thousands of hours of experience working with children and adults ranging in unique abilities.
Emily successfully advocated for a wheelchair-accessible swing as a third grader, served as Vice President (2018-2019) and President (2019-2020) of Michigan State University's Student Council for Exceptional Children, co-founded the Mental Health Association at Detroit Mercy Law, and had first-hand experience with school accommodations.
Emily obtained her Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Michigan State University in 2020, and her Juris Doctor degree from Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2023.
Emily is currently a licensure candidate in Oregon's Supervised Practice Portfolio Examination program, and is on track for full licensure in the coming months.
Emily is passionate about this field and is eager and excited to work with clients.
Kelly is a native of the great plains, and has lived in Oregon almost continually for more than fifty years. After spending ten years in the workers’ compensation business, he attended law school at the University of Oregon and graduated from the University of Texas School of Law with High Honors. He later earned an LLM in taxation. His law practice focused on estate planning using wills and trusts, probate and trust administration issues, as well as guardianships and conservatorships.
Kelly retired from the practice of law on June 30, 2024 but continues to work with us as a paralegal in estate planning.
Sara Hope joined us on December 1, 2020 as a full time Executive Administrator. On January 01, 2023, Sara Hope was promoted to Paralegal.
Sara manages all phases of client document management, billing, and office systems development. Sara is a notary public in Oregon and Washington. She now also performs duties related to her paralegal skills, including document review, issue coding, and draft documents and pleadings production.
